Piqua is located in west central Ohio along the banks of the Great Miami River and approximately 25 miles north of Dayton and about 80 miles north of Cincinnati. Piqua sits on the I-75 corridor just 20 miles north of I-70. Piqua is part of the Dayton-Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area and the largest 90-minute air travel market.

This area has a storied past, with native peoples first entering the Miami Valley in the 1600's, using the area as hunting grounds. Later on, a band of the Miami Tribe or Confederacy, led by La Demoiselle, (known as Old Britain as he preferred trading with the British), entered the area. These east coast colonial traders established Pickawillany in 1747 and the community later became to be known as Piqua.
